Whether it's a rusty project held together by zip ties, a pristine survivor, a six-figure build, or someone's bone-stock daily that they're proud of — every car at this event deserves the same respect.

So here's the easy part: if it isn't your car, don't touch it.

• Not with your hand.
• Not with your butt.
• Not with your drink.
• Not with your backpack.
• Not with your cooler.
• Not with your camping chair.
• Not with your umbrella.
• Not with that folding wagon you've somehow managed to overpack.

Cars are not benches, tables, coat racks, cup holders, or convenient places to lean while you tell your buddy how your uncle “used to have one just like it.”

And if your child hasn't mastered the advanced concept of “look with your eyes, not your hands,” or your dog thinks every rear quarter panel reflection is another dog wanting to play — car show day is probably a good day to leave them behind in your temperature-controlled cabin.

And while we're on the subject… be aware of what you're carrying.

A few years ago, someone dragged something down the side of my STi and left an 8–10 inch gouge through my fender and taillight. Backpack? Camping chair? Cooler? Medieval lance? I still don't know. I'd like to believe they had no idea they'd done it. However, had I known who was responsible, they would've been paying the repair bill (#bodybychrisp).

Not every accident is intentional, but every accident is preventable.

Respect the cars. Respect their owners. Respect the event.
